The Swiss company Berlinger & Co AG’s cold chain monitoring systems division is expected to be acquired by Sensitech, a member of the carrier group. Berlinger is a family-owned business that was founded in 1865 and specializes in creative, tailored solutions for tracking temperature-sensitive products in the worldwide health, pharmaceutical and life science industries.
About 85 people work for Berlinger in its monitoring solutions division, which has operations in the US, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The Berlinger family will continue to own Berlinger Special AG, the Berlinger Group’s anti-doping product company. Both companies will stay open at their current production location in the canton of St. Gallen, in Ganterschwil. The acquisition is anticipated to occur in Q3, subject to customary closing conditions. It also includes Berlinger & Co. subsidiaries Antaris Solutions BV and Berlinger USA LLC.
Bhasker Kaushal, Vice President and General Manager of Sensitech and refrigeration aftermarket, said, “With the acquisition of Berlinger’s monitoring business, Sensitech sees an exciting opportunity to accelerate growth in strategically important adjacencies and expand our portfolio of monitoring solutions for pharma supply chains.”
“With this combination, we will deliver comprehensive and unique monitoring solutions that deliver patient safety, supply chain efficiency, and sustainability outcomes for our customers. Siemens and Berlinger have a common vision and focus on innovation.”
Berlinger’s product line includes the Fridge-tag vaccine fridge and refrigerated site monitoring system; the SmartSystem platform, which allows modular, real-time, end-to-end monitoring via fully integrated, rechargeable temperature monitoring devices and a cloud-based software platform; and proprietary software and analytics to automate the clinical trial stability and validation process from start to finish.
In 2006, Sensitech joined Carrier Global Corporation. It is one of the top businesses offering monitoring services and products to top businesses in the consumer goods, industrial, pharmaceutical, food and other sectors.
